STAT+: Anne Wojcicki wins back 23andMe, this time as a nonprofit










A nonprofit led by Anne Wojcicki, the co-founder and long-time CEO of genetic data firm 23andMe, won a last-minute bidding war to buy most of the company’s assets for a price of $305 million, the company said in a press release.

The news, reported first by the Wall Street Journal, comes less than a month after Regeneron, the biotech giant, had said that it planned to purchase 23andMe out of bankruptcy for $256 million. 

23andMe said the agreement would result in a final round of bidding between the Wojcicki-led nonprofit — the TTAM Research Institute — and Regeneron that was designed to allow the company’s board to obtain the best possible deal for the company’s shareholders.
