Hey folks,<\/p>\n

You might remember me from my previous posts about my progression into big tech<\/a> or my guide to passing A\/B Test interview questions<\/a>. Well, I’m back with what will hopefully be more helpful interview tips.<\/p>\n

These are tips specifically for product analytics roles in big tech. So these are roles with titles like Product Analyst, Data Scientist Analytics, or Data Scientist Product Analytics. This post will probably be less relevant to ML and Research type roles.<\/p>\n

At big tech companies, they will most likely ask you product case interview questions. Here are the five most common types of questions. This is just based off my experience, having done 11 final round interviews and over 20 technical screens at tech companies in the last few years.<\/p>\n

  1. Feature change: Instagram recently rolled out a new comment ranking algorithm to a small percentage of users. How would you evaluate it and determine whether to roll it out globally?<\/li>\n
  2. Measure Success: How would you measure the success of Spotify Wrapped?<\/li>\n
  3. Investigating Metrics: Time spent on the platform has decreased in the last month. How do you go about figuring out what’s going on?<\/li>\n
  4. Tradeoff: A recent feature change increased revenue but decreased engagement. How do you figure out whether this feature change should be kept or not?<\/li>\n
  5. New feature\/product: Pretend like Uber Eats doesn’t delivery groceries. Walk me through how you would think through whether Uber Eats should invest in grocery delivery.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    If you are preparing for big tech interviews for product analytics roles, I recommend you to literally just plug in these types of questions into your AI of choice and ask it to come up with frameworks for you, tailored for whichever company you are interviewing with.<\/p>\n

    For example, this is the prompt that I used: I have an interview with Uber for a product data scientist position. Here are the five categories of product cases I would like to practice (c\/p the five examples from above). Generate two cases per category and ask them to me like a real interview. Do not give me answers or hints, and do not tell me what category of question it is. After I submit my answer, evaluate my answer. Then, ask me the next question.<\/p>\n

    The frameworks you’ll use to answer these questions will be slightly different depending on whether you are interviewing with a SaaS company, multi sided marketplace company, social networking company, etc. I did this for every company I interviewed with.<\/p>\n
