WASHINGTON \u2014 There was broad bipartisan support at a Senate hearing Wednesday to reverse course on the Trump administration\u2019s cuts to federally funded biomedical research.<\/p>\n

Sen. Susan Collins (Maine), the Republican chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, kicked off the hearing with a rebuke of the Trump administration for cutting federal biomedical research funding, cancelling grants, and laying off federal health department employees, and said the changes must be reversed.<\/p>\n

\u201cProposed funding cuts, the firing of essential federal scientists,\u00a0 and policy uncertainties threaten to undermine the foundation for our nation\u2019s global leadership,\u201d she said Wednesday at the hearing, titled \u201cBiomedical Research: Keeping America\u2019s Edge in Innovation.\u201d<\/p>\n
