In late July, President Trump signed three executive orders relating to artificial intelligence as part of the administration\u2019s push to deregulate AI<\/a> and promote its use. One of those executive orders, titled \u201cPreventing Woke AI in the Federal Government<\/a>,\u201d directed government agencies to not contract with AI model developers for models that \u201cmanipulate responses in favor of ideological dogmas such as DEI.\u201d<\/p>\n DEI, or \u201cdiversity, equity, and inclusion,\u201d is defined in the order as including \u201cthe suppression or distortion of factual information about race or sex; manipulation of racial or sexual representation in model outputs; incorporation of concepts like critical race theory, transgenderism, unconscious bias, intersectionality, and systemic racism; and discrimination on the basis of race or sex.\u201d<\/p>\n Karandeep Singh, an influential voice in health AI and chief health AI officer at UC San Diego Health, is frustrated with the order, calling its treatment of DEI and bias \u201cdisingenuous,\u201d especially for health-related applications of AI.\u00a0<\/p>\n Continue to STAT+ to read the full story\u2026<\/a><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
