STAT+: ACA tax credits still in limbo after stopgap government funding bill fails

WASHINGTON \u2014 Congress failed to pass stopgap government funding Friday due in large part to differences between the parties over health care policies.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The two parties blocked each other\u2019s temporary funding measures, increasing the chances of a government shutdown when funding expires at midnight on Sept. 30. It also jeopardizes efforts by Democrats to avoid issuing notices of premium spikes for Affordable Care Act marketplace insurance next month.<\/p>\n
There is still a chance the two sides could strike a deal over recess. The Senate is expected to take off at least part of next week for Rosh Hashanah. If they take off the full week, they\u2019re not expected to return until Sept. 29, giving them two days to act. It\u2019s not clear whether they will negotiate over the recess.\u00a0<\/p>\n
