GSK announced that Luke Miels, the company\u2019s chief commercial officer, will take over as CEO on Jan. 1, replacing Emma Walmsley, who has led the drugmaker since 2017<\/strong>, STAT<\/a> tells us. Walmsley\u2019s tenure included the spinoff of GSK\u2019s consumer health care business into a new firm called Haleon and focusing the company on innovative medicines that could fuel its growth, specifically specialty drugs and certain vaccines.\u00a0But investors have questioned the U.K. firm\u2019s strategy at times and whether it\u2019s done enough to position itself to compete into the future, particularly as it loses patent protection on its steady HIV franchise and as it\u2019s faced challenges in its vaccine business. Rival companies have in recent years outpaced GSK, which has seen its shares flatten over the past year.\u00a0GSK said it has been looking for Walmsley\u2019s replacement over the last few months, with both internal and external candidates considered. Miels joined GSK in 2017 and had previously worked at AstraZeneca, Roche, and Sanofi in positions in the U.S., Asia, and Europe.<\/p>\n AstraZeneca plans to start listing its shares on the New York Stock Exchange while maintaining its London listing, a move that would allow investors in its biggest market easier access to its regular shares, but it will be seen as a blow to the U.K., which has witnessed a number of companies\u00a0flee London listings\u00a0and move them to New York<\/strong>, STAT<\/a> writes. It also comes as pharmaceutical companies continue to criticize the U.K. over its drug-pricing policies and as a poor commercial environment for drugmakers. AstraZeneca in particular has pulled some of its investments in the U.K. and sparred with health officials over pricing and access tied to its breast cancer drug Enhertu. Companies, meanwhile, are aiming to appeal to the U.S., under threat of tariffs and a drug-pricing crackdown by President Trump. AstraZeneca has offered American depositary receipts on Nasdaq, but those are more complicated to invest in than the ordinary shares that it now plans to trade in New York.
