WASHINGTON \u2014 Centers for Disease Control and Prevention staff behind the agency\u2019s flagship publication\u00a0have suffered deep cuts as part of the firings\u00a0the Health and Human Services Department<\/a>\u00a0has blamed on\u00a0the government shutdown, according to five people familiar with the situation.<\/p>\n Almost the entire staff of Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, known as the \u201cvoice of the CDC,\u201d has been laid off, former publication editor-in-chief Charlotte Kent told STAT Saturday in her first public interview since she left the agency in February.
